Volunteering For Kids

The volunteering age at the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center is 18.  If you're not old enough yet to volunteer there are still many important ways you can get involved and help homeless animals!

Learn About Animals

Write a school report about a certain breed or species of animal.  Visit your library or use the Internet to learn about responsible pet care and animal welfare issues.

Spay and Neuter Your Pets

Each year, millions of dogs and cats wind up homeless on the street or in shelters.  Spaying and neutering eases the overpopulation problem and prolongs the life of your dog or cat.  Talk to your family and friends about the importance of spaying and neutering.  If you can talk just a few people into spaying or neutering their pets you will personally be making a huge difference in the lives of animals!

Donate

Every cent makes a difference!  Children can raise money for the Animal Care and Adoption Center and have fun at the same time by organizing an aluminum can drive, car wash, bake sale or selling homemade dog treats.  Kids can also collect newspapers, old blankets, sheets, towels and rugs for pet bedding from their friends and neighbors or from garage sales.

the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center Animal services division responds to acts of cruelty and neglect to animals all over Johnson County.  If you see an animal being abused or treated cruelly call the Center or tell your teacher, parent or police office.  Your help might save an animal's life!
