New Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center
The City of Iowa City sought and received FEMA approval to build a new Animal Care and Adoption Center on Sand Road just South of the City of Iowa City Streets Division. The Friends of the Animal Center Foundation is looking forward to launching a capital campaign later this Spring!
Flood of 2008
In June 2008, flooding caused considerable disruption to the lives of families and their beloved animals in our area. The Animal Center and the building housing the FACF office were also flooded. The animals were evacuated to the Johnson County Fairgrounds, where staff and volunteers set up emergency animal intake for flood victims. They worked around the clock caring for Center animals and more animals from families forced to evacuate their homes.
Since the flood, the Animal Center has been at a temporary location at 4852 Sand Road.
