NEW Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center
New Location Address:
3910 Napolean Lane, Iowa City, IA 52240
The animals and staff moved into the new facility July 2015. The animals adjusted quickly and the staff and volunteers learned new protocols for cleaning, socialization, and daily tasks. When you visit you will see how comfortable the animals live, and how safe and clean the overall environment is for everyone. If you haven't had a chance to visit the new facility, we highly recommend you visit soon! Thank you to all the donors and partners that made this vision and reality.
History: Flood of 2008
In June 2008, flooding caused considerable disruption to the lives of families and their beloved animals in our area. The Iowa City Animal Center and the building housing our office were also flooded. The animals were evacuated to the Johnson County Fairgrounds, where staff and volunteers set up emergency animal intake for flood victims. They worked around the clock caring for Center animals and more animals from families forced to evacuate their homes.
Following the flood, the Iowa City Animal Center took up temporary residence at 4852 Sand Road SE.
A new location was selected and vetted by the City, State and FEMA south of the softball fields on South Gilbert Street, at 3910 Napoleon Lane. Neumann Monson Architects of Iowa City performed the Architecture and Engineering Services for the Animal Center Project, which broke ground July 2014 and opened for business September 2015.
