Our History
Founded in February of 1999 by 3 very determined animal lovers, the mission of the Foundation has remained focused on raising funds and training volunteers to support existing, expanded and new programs for the animals in our community.
It was recognized that the City budget for the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center was not enough to give homeless, abused and neglected animals a second chance. The three founders recognized this issue and started a grassroots organization to supplement the budget at the Animal Center. Starting with just $500 in the bank, FACF has grown leaps and bounds over the years. FACF was able to pledge $1 million towards the new Animal Center, a dream the three founders are excited to see fulfilled. As FACF gains recognition in the community, funds increase, programs expand, and more animals are helped each day.
FACF has been organized exclusively for charitable, literary, educational or scientific purposes to qualify for tax exempt status under the Internal Revenue Laws and Regulations of the United States. Tax Identification Number: 42-1484935
